My name is Maggie, for my project I did a picture of my boyfriend playing video games. I chose this picture because it was not just a regular portrait, it had a lot of different interest points on it. I started off with the green of his face. I chose green because his face already had a green tint to it because of the TV screen, and my favorite color is green. His hair is analogous to the green and I thought it would just be a cool contrast to the green. I added split complementary to the green by using an orange background and also by adding purple in the facial hair. For every color I did analogous tones to add depth and shadows to each shape in the photo. I originally started off doing extremely small shapes (on his nose and forehead, but I did not have enough time to finish the project so I started making larger shapes. I really was just making non square/rectangular objects. That was my only goal was to do uneven shapes. For the hair and beard, I wanted contrast so I did the long zigzags in the hair and swirls in the beard. To get the final image I decided on a dark grey background. I really like this because it allows both the light colors and dark colors to pop without getting muddled by the background.
